Noble Energy, Inc.
NOBLE ENERGY, Inc.
Noble Energy is one of the leading exploration and production companies, and was one of the original companies to pioneer offshore exploration in the Gulf of Mexico. Since its early days, Noble has been integral in the oil and gas industry and has continued this trend throughout the years, leading to deepwater exploration and production opportunities in the Gulf of Mexico in recent years.
HISTORY AND COMPANY STRUCTURE
Noble Energy was founded by Lloyd Noble over 80 years ago in 1932 as Samedan Oil Corporation in Oklahoma. The company’s primary purpose was the exploration of crude oil and natural gas. Forty years later, the company became a holding company and changed its name to Noble Affiliates Inc., with three subsidiary companies: Samedan Oil Corporation (the original oil and gas exploration company), Noble Drilling Corporation (a drilling company), and B. F. Walker (a trucking company). Over the years, the company spun off Noble Drilling and sold the B.F. Walker trucking company in an effort to save money. By 2002, the company moved its headquarters from Oklahoma to Houston, Texas and diversified into methanol production. The new company name became Noble Energy during this time.
Noble Energy was one of the first companies to explore offshore exploration and production opportunities in the Gul of Mexico. The company has been integral in promoting exploration and production in the Gulf of Mexico and has helped shape the oil and gas industry as it moves forward into deepwater territory. The company currently has reserves of 1.4 billion barrels of oil equivalent and assets valued at over $19 billion. One of the most recent company projects involves an exploration well (Deep Blue) in the Gulf of Mexico which reached a depth of 32,684 feet, where Noble found hydrocarbon pay in Miocene intervals. In May 2015, the company announced plans to purchase Rosetta Resources in order to gain entry into the drilling locations of the Eagle Ford Shale region of Texas.
