Ensco
ENSCO
Ensco is a global provider of offshore drilling services and currently owns one of the world’s newest ultra-deepwater fleet, in addition to the largest fleet of jackups. The oil and gas service providers are an important part of the oil and gas industry, and are the companies which provide many of the platforms, drillbits, rigs, and equipment which lead to new discoveries throughout the world. The service providers are subject to strict safety procedures in the manufacture, maintenance, and delivery of these pieces of equipment, especially in the wake of the Deepwater Horizon accident. Ensco currently operates across six continents.
HISTORY AND CORPORATE STRUCTURE
Ensco began operations in 1987 as Energy Services Company, Inc. Shortly after the formation, the company acquired Penrol Drilling and Dual Drilling. In 1995, the company changed its name to ENSCO International Incorporated and listed its shares on the New York Stock Exchange as ESV.
After this point, the company began to focus solely on offshore drilling, growing the jackup rig fleet and the ultra-deepwater fleet. In 2011, the company acquired Pride International, thereby creating one of the world’s largest offshore drilling companies. The company now has operations on six continents, with a significant presence in Brazil and West Africa.
The company’s fleet includes the world’s newest ultra-deepwater vessels, as well as the largest fleet of premium jackups. The company’s rigs have drilled into some of the most complex wells around the world. The company’s fleet includes the following:
- 9 drillships
- 11 semisubmersibles
- 3 moored semisubmersibles
- 40 premium jackups
- 2 deepwater units
- 3 shallow-water units
The average age of the company’s fleet is four years and the company continues to invest a large amount into their fleet each year. The current headquarters of the company is in London, although the corporate office is in Houston, along with major offices around the world in Angola, Brazil, Mexico, Scotland, Singapore, and UAE.
