Single Vehicle Accidents
Single Vehicle Accidents
While most car accidents often appear to be the result of one vehicle careening into another, many accidents are also single vehicle accidents. These are often the most heartbreaking types of accidents since they are typically caused by driver distraction or intoxication. The passengers in any car are subject to the mindset of the driver, and if they misjudged the intoxication effects, they may unfortunately fall victim to serious injuries. If you or a loved one have been injured in a single vehicle accident, you may be entitled to receive compensation from the driver for any injuries.
SINGLE VEHICLE ACCIDENT STATISTICS
In 2002, the United States Department of Transportation published a report regarding the prevalence of rollover accidents. The study determined that the vast majority of rollover accidents were single vehicle accidents. Specifically, approximately three-fourths of all rollover accidents were the result of single vehicle accidents. The study theorized that driver distraction or drowsiness was often the cause of these accidents. While rollover accidents are frequently associated with curves in the roads, the study found that most of the single vehicle rollover accidents involved vehicles which had been traveling on a straight road prior to the roll over. However, approximately 30 percent of the rollover single vehicle accidents did involve a curve.
CAR ACCIDENT RECOVERY
As the victim of a single vehicle accident, you are entitled to bring a claim against the driver of the vehicle. Since this is often an uncomfortable situation, it is often recommended to seek the advice of an experienced personal injury attorney as soon as possible. In single vehicle accidents, it should not matter that you are well acquainted with the driver – their actions still led to your injuries. Single vehicle accidents, often roll-over accidents, can have severe injuries that will take months to recover from. During this time, many victims are unable to work, which greatly impacts their finances. As the victim of a single vehicle accident, you are entitled to seek the following forms of compensation:
- Medical expenses
- Rehabilitation expenses
- Lost wages
- Future earnings
- Pain and suffering
- Loss of consortium
While some of these expenses may not have a current “dollar value” attached, an experienced personal injury attorney will be able to assist you in calculating the full amount of damages you are entitled to receive after your accident.
