Rollover Accidents
Rollover Accidents
Rollover accidents are some of the most life altering crashes and can lead to extensive injuries and recovery time. While rollover accidents are not as common as ordinary “fender-benders,” they do occur on a regular basis and can shatter a family’s life in the blink of an eye. If you or a loved one have been injured due to a rollover accident, you may be entitled to compensation for the resulting injuries.
ROLLOVER ACCIDENT OCCURRENCES AND STATISTICS
In 2002, the U.S. Department of Transportation put together a comprehensive report of the characteristics of fatal rollover crashes, in an attempt to curb the incidence of these accidents, which were becoming more common in the early 2000s. The advent of the sport utility vehicle and jeeps often led to the increased number of accidents, since these vehicles were often “top heavy,” leading to a greater likelihood of rollover crashes. Between 1991 and 2002, the number of fatal SUV rollover accidents more than doubled, due to the rise in the sale of these vehicles.
Surprisingly, the report concluded that nearly all rollover accidents were single vehicle accidents, mostly with drivers who were found to be under the influence. Nationwide, rollover accidents account for nearly 20 percent of all fatal accidents.
ROLLOVER ACCIDENT RECOVERY
While most rollover accidents are single vehicle accidents, many are caused by another vehicle which either slams into one vehicle, or causes the vehicle to maneuver out of traffic, resulting in a rollover. Quite often, the passengers in a rollover accident are those subject to the most severe injuries. The injuries resulting from rollover accidents are quite often severe or life-threatening, and can include the following:
- Concussions
- Traumatic brain injury
- Paralysis
- Burns
- Amputations
- Spinal cord injuries
Most of these injuries require ongoing medical care in the immediate aftermath of the accident, as well as rehabilitative care for months to come. Those victims who are subject to traumatic brain injuries or amputations will have to relearn how to perform the most basic functions. An experienced personal injury attorney will work with you and your family to calculate the appropriate amount of damages you are entitled to receive after a rollover accident.
