By The Numbers: Truck Accidents
BY THE NUMBERS: TRUCK ACCIDENTS
Truck driving has revolutionized commerce throughout the world and is an easy way for producers and consumers to ship and receive products. Very few products cannot be shipped via truck, and as a result, many chemicals are often shipped throughout the Texas roadways, thanks largely to the oil and gas activity in south Texas. While these truck shipments represent a boom in the Texas economy, they also represent hazardous road conditions, as truck accidents have doubled throughout these regions. If you or a loved one have been injured in a truck accident, you may be entitled to receive compensation for your injuries.
In 2014, Texas reported 417 fatal accidents involving semi-trailers, and 113 fatal accidents involving trucks. This number has increased from 2008, during which the state reported 364 fatal accidents involving semi-trailers and 62 fatal accidents involving trucks. Breaking these numbers down even further, it is evident that the largest shift in the numbers stems from rural semi-trailer accidents, many of which can be attributed to increased activity between 2008 and 2015 in the oil and gas areas of south Texas. The citizens of these small counties have had to deal with the ongoing flurry of activity which took over their towns beginning in 2008 when the first well was drilled.
While rural truck accidents make up the majority of fatal accidents in Texas, the urban numbers also represent a large number as well, with 117 fatal semi-trailer accidents in 2014 and 58 fatal truck accidents in 2014. These numbers represent a slight increase from 2008, when 112 fatal semi-trailer accidents were reported and 33 fatal truck accidents.
TRUCK ACCIDENT RECOVERY
Truck accidents are often severe in nature, and can quickly lead to devastating injuries for all people involved in the accident. Many trucks throughout Texas are hauling hazardous chemicals which can quickly ignite if leaked from a storage tank or near a spark. Injuries stemming from truck accidents can include the following:
- Broken bones
- Burns
- Amputations
- Paralysis
- Spinal cord injuries
- Traumatic brain injuries
The severity of injuries will often depend on the type of accident, although most truck accidents are often severe in nature. A victim of a truck accident may bring a claim for any expenses involved with the accident, including:
- Medical expenses
- Rehabilitation expenses
- Lost wages
- Future earnings
- Pain and suffering
- Loss of consortium
An experienced personal injury attorney will assist you in calculating the amount of damages you are entitled to receive, and will work together with the responsible party and their insurance agent to ensure you receive the compensation you deserve for your injuries.
