ALLSEAS USA, Inc.
Pipelines serve an important role in the oil and gas industry, especially in offshore operations. Pipelines are often integral for the transportation of oil and gas to companies’ onshore facilities and for eventual sale to the public or to a further processing company. We may think of the pipeline infrastructure as “always” being there, but some companies provide the construction for these pipelines. The construction and installation of pipelines is an arduous task when the pipelines must be nearly 10,000 feet below the surface, and therefore most large oil and gas companies rely on pipeline installers to assist once they have a new field in deepwater locations.
HISTORY AND COMPANY OPERATIONS
Allseas USA, Inc. is a large Swiss-based international company which provides offshore pipeline installation and subsea construction services. The company has a large fleet of vessels which are specifically designed to participate in the type of offshore work unique to the company. Allseas USA developed unique designs for the pipelay work it participates in, even converting existing vessels into pipelay vessels.
The company was founded in 1985, and shortly after opened offices in the Netherlands and Switzerland. The initial projects for the company involved offshore pipeline work, and the company remained largely successful in the late 1980s despite the downturn in oil prices during this time period.
The company’s first project in the United States was in 1990, and this was also the company’s first deepwater project, in 985 feet of water. Several years later, the company began its first project in the Gulf of Mexico, and set a record for deepwater pipeline installation based on its pipe at 5,413 feet depth.
The company expanded to Southeast Asia and the Persian Gulf in the 2000s, breaking additional records with the depth on pipeline projects of up to 9,105 feet, as well as breaking records with the speed with which the company lays pipe.
The company currently has 2,500 employees in offices around the world and is currently working on the installation of 339 kilometers of pipeline in the Gulf of Mexico.
